Puja Banerjee Becomes Cabaret Dancer For New Period Drama
Addatimes unveiled the first look of its period drama Cabaret directed by Utsav Mukherjee.
This is a period drama set in the 1960s and 1970s in Calcutta and other regions of West Bengal. A unique love tale involving a Naxalite militant Swarup (Satyam Bhattacharya) and a cabaret dancer named Miss Elina (Puja Banerjee) that is intricately intertwined with modern radical politics, social hierarchy, class conflict, and interpersonal relationships. A young girl from a rural hamlet sets out to become the best cabaret dancer in Calcutta, and the story of her emotional journey is what Cabaret promises to be.
This is the first time actress Puja Banerjee will be seen playing the role of a Cabaret dancer.
“I have always desired to portray a role similar to Miss Elina’s. There is a very wonderful love story in Cabaret. As an actor, you rarely have the chance to perform to the best of the script. You will soon be able to see Miss Elina’s many colors when Cabaret is released” said Puja.
“Miss Elina’s journey involves coming to terms with many individuals and circumstances that not only impact her life but also determine the paths taken by those in her immediate vicinity. It’s a story of love, passion, family, emotion, politics, retaliation, and most importantly, of different human conditions” said the director.
Cabaret stars Puja Banerjee, Satyam Bhattacharya, and Shantilal Mukherjee in lead roles.
The music is composed by Shibasish Mukherjee.
Cabaret will start streaming on 26th January.
