Ranbir Kapoor plays Rama in Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana, a two-part film series helmed by Nitesh Tiwari.

Produced by Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations and DNEG, a production and visual effects studio that has won eight Academy Awards.

Through a dedicated teaser, Namit Malhotra, producer, director, and creative architect behind one of the most ambitious cinematic productions in the world, Ramayana, presents Rama, one of the most enduring figures in storytelling, giving viewers worldwide their first glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor in the role.

The “Rama” teaser, which was released with equal fanfare around the world, is a momentous occasion for viewers everywhere as it sheds light on a character whose tale has persisted for more than 5,000 years. It provides a new viewpoint for people who have grown up with this tale. For others, it provides a chance to interact with it on this scale for the first time.

“The greatness of Ramayana lies in its emotional richness. It is fundamentally about decisions, repercussions, and the weight of doing what is right rather than just good and evil. We have made an effort to remain faithful to the profoundly human nature of Rama’s journey,” said director Nitesh Tiwari.

Regarding his role as Rama, Ranbir Kapoor said, “I don’t believe I’m here to speak for Rama. I’m here to absorb his knowledge. His simplicity and purity are extremely uncommon, and it has been incredibly humbling to try to comprehend and absorb that”.

One of the most ambitious movies in Indian cinema history, Ramayana brings together some of the biggest names in international entertainment to play characters who have influenced storytelling for generations. The cast of the film consists of Sai Pallavi (Sita), Sunny Deol (Monkey God Hanuman), and Ravie Dubey (Lakshamana).

Ramayana: Part 1 opens in theatres globally this fall during Diwali 2026.
