In San Francisco, Debojyoti Mishra’s musical theatre production of Salil Chowdhury, Hemanta, Lata, and Sandhya came to life on stage.

Salil Chowdhury has traveled through numerous musical environments. His roaming in the realm of diverse issues, whether it be love songs, songs of association in life, or songs of mass activity, was his own ability. The death of Salil Chowdhury occurred on September 5, 1995. Debojyoti Mishra has been his longtime helper and musical friend of this musical maestro.

Salil Chowdhury’s birth centenary is coming in 2024. One can assume that the celebration started at the Banga Mela in the Bay City of San Francisco.

A musical theater based on the life of Salil Chowdhury was recently presented in the city titled Jibon Ujjiban. Debojyoti Mishra has written the entire screenplay and arranged the music. The 40-minute drama depicts his journey from Assam’s tea plantations to Mumbai.

In the songs, Do Bigha Zamin to Anand’s Zindagi Kaisi Peheli, Madhumati, Na Mono Lage Na, Ei Duniyay Bhai Sobi Hoy, Pothe Ebar Namo Sathi, Ahowan Shono Ahowan were performed.

Salil Chowdhury, Lata Mangeshkar, Hemant Mukhopadhyay, Jharua, Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, and others have appeared as characters on the stage. The drama was directed by Anindya Chakraborty.

Shuben and his team were in charge of the songs. The dance direction was by Chandreeyi Mukherjee, Shijhini Gupta, Dalia Sen. Sabyasachi Basu in the role of Salil Chowdhury, Jharuya – Sayini Roy, Lata Mangeshkar – Chandreeyi Mukherjee, Raj Kapoor and Chaplin – Pinaki Mukherjee, Chhobi Biswas – Anirban Maiti, Hemanta Mukhopadhyay – Aniruddha Banerjee, Bimal Roy – Soumen Ghosh mesmerized with their performance.

Debojyoti Mishra said, ” I quickly thought of the musical theatre based on the life of Salil Chowdhury. When Dalia Chatterjee Sen from the Bay Area of San Francisco learned about this, she thought of this production. The drama was also directed by Anindya Chakraborty. The production has been well planned in Kolkata as well as other locations. This may be the first musical theatre production in this country based on Salil Chowdhury’s life”.

A grand initiative to celebrate the life of the musical maestro.
