A legend in the film industry, Debasree Roy has made a lasting impression with her outstanding performances throughout the years. Following a prolonged hiatus and in light of the evolving entertainment industry and the proliferation of digital platforms, the well-known actress is embarking on a new phase of her remarkable career. Under the auspices of hoichoi and with artistic direction from filmmaker Sourav Chakraborty, Debasree Roy will bring Sucharita Lahiri to life in Chemistry Mashi.

Sucharita Lahiri, a woman in her late 50s, is at a turning point in her life. She has been married to a bureaucrat for thirty years, and they have raised successful children, but a family dispute makes her wonder about who she is. Choosing to forge her own route, Sucharita rekindles her interest in chemistry via the entertaining online channel “Chemistry Mashi,” where she imparts knowledge of the material in a distinctive way to students in classes 11 and 12. Her notoriety grows to the point where she begins preparing pupils for entrance exams. But when one of her recommended question papers just so happens to coincide with a test, she becomes quite popular, and suspicions of question paper leaks are made. In the midst of all of this, her familial equations also continue to change as the series goes on. 

Chemistry Mashi turns into an engrossing story of Sucharita’s struggle against strong forces to establish her innocence and expose a widespread conspiracy, as well as her perseverance, integrity, and battle against corruption.

The trailer launch of the series took place recently and was graced by the director, Debasree Roy, Shankar Chakraborty, Soumya Mukherjee, and others.

“At first, stepping back in front of the camera after a long hiatus feels like a breath of fresh air. But this time, the medium is different—rather than being in cinemas, it’s on OTT. I am excited and anxious at the same time because it’s a new endeavor for me. It has been an incredible pleasure to work as a director with the full Hoichoi team and Sourav” said Debasree Roy.

The actress shared that she was very scared of Chemistry during her school days. She joked and said that this was God taking her test again with regard to Chemistry.

“Chemistry Mashi essentially tells the narrative of mothers who have dedicated their lives to taking care of the home, especially the long hours spent in the kitchen. One such mother is portrayed by the gifted Debasree Roy as Sucharita Lahiri. She makes the decision to abandon the regimen she has been on for the previous thirty years one day. But this choice brings up a lot of obstacles and major life adjustments for her. Chemistry Mashi’s main theme is examined in this way. When I think back on my filming experience, working with Debasree Roy has been an incredible adventure, and hoichoi has become a place where I feel at home. It is always comforting and comfortable to return there” said director Sourav Chakraborty.

Shankar Chakraborty said that he had acted with Debasree Roy before and acting with her again was a pleasure. “Though I got irritated sometimes, the shoot was an incredible experience for me. The cast consisted of young and talented actors who were a pleasure to work with” said the director.

The series will air from 14^th February on Hoichoi.
