Unwind & Relax At New Food Joint Bougainvillea Café & Bistro

The inauguration of Bougainvillea Café & Bistro, the much-awaited new café close to South City Mall, took place recently. Prominent members of Kolkata’s culinary and lifestyle community attended the grand launch.

Longtime friends and co-owners Sumona Basu and Somnath Sarkar came up with the idea for the café. As a co-owner of the well-liked Calcutta Nostalgia restaurant, Sumona Basu contributes her extensive knowledge of Kolkata’s culinary customs. Together, Sumona and Somnath have designed an area that embodies their individual narratives; it is named after a flower that blooms tenaciously, unapologetically, and according to its own terms.

Bougainvillea is Sumona’s favorite flower. “The flower grows well when properly cared for, and it grows even when it is not cared for. Flowers are the most beautiful things on our planet, and hence we came up with this name for the café,” said Sumona.

Among other guests, prominent food influencers Saswata Duttaray and Bijoy Sarkar graced the launch event, making it a momentous occasion in Kolkata’s developing café culture.

The elegance of Bougainvillea Café & Bistro is meant to be welcoming rather than intimidating, emanating warmth rather than grandeur. The area has a sweeping mural of the famous vine as its focal point, real bougainvillea plants framing the entrance, and realistic floral accents inside. Every nook becomes a cozy haven thanks to the warm lighting.

Burgers and sandwiches coexist with continental and oriental dishes on Bougainvillea’s bold and diverse menu. The coffee options include an Espresso Sunset mocktail, a Saffron Coffee Blend, and a traditional espresso. With dishes like Fish Diana and Veg Stroganoff, the continental section is just as daring. Every dish is presented on simple white plates, allowing the food to do the talking.
