The trailer of director Saumya Sengupta’s Bengali film “Mrityupathojatri” is out now.

Mrityupathojatri is an experimental fiction directed by Saumya Sengupta. The director has dedicated his first film to the famous Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.

The film shows the last twelve hours of a convict sentenced to death. On a specific day, the convict is put into the condemned cell. And the next day he is taken out of the cell to be hanged. In between these times, the convict’s psychological distress, loneliness, guilt, and fear of death are shown in detail. Finally, the time to end arrives. The convict begs for his life but nobody listens.

The film has been written by the director.

The director said, “Each scene in this film will show the psychological transformation of the convict”.

Rahul said “I had to work hard to play this role of a death sentence convict. I had to go through various correctional homes for almost a month and had to do difficult workshops under the command of the director. Day after day I had to assimilate the character by keeping myself locked in the room”.

The cast of the film consists of Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, Dipak Deb as Jail Super, Anik Mitra as Deputy Super, Subodh Chakrabarty as jail doctor, and Jayanta Roy as a magistrate.

The jail song lyrics and composition are by Somnath Kar.

Kan Singh Sodha has produced this film.

The film will release on 10th June.
