WPU Goa’s Sole Focus On Transdisciplinary Model Of Education

According to speakers at the World Peace University (WPU) Goa Open House, universities must go beyond preparing students for their first job and instead prepare them to navigate multiple career transitions throughout their lives as artificial intelligence and rapid technological change continue to reshape industries worldwide.
Prospective students, parents, and educators convened at the event to discuss the future of higher education and the evolving demands on universities in a world that is becoming more unpredictable. The transdisciplinary model of education at WPU Goa, which aims to integrate disciplinary depth with the capacity to think across domains, adapt to change, and tackle challenging real-world issues, was at the center of the discussion.
“Universities can no longer assume that preparing students for their first job is enough. Whether we are preparing students for the various opportunities, changes, and transitions they will face throughout their lives is the more crucial question. The future is not just for experts; it is also for people who can keep learning, make connections between concepts from different fields, and solve problems that defy easy classification,” said WPU Goa’s Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ashish Bharadwaj.
The conversation examined how, as industries change more quickly than traditional academic cycles, long-held beliefs about higher education are being called into question. Established roles are changing, new professions are emerging, and people who can combine knowledge from several disciplines rather than just one are becoming more and more competitive.
Participants heard how learning, flexibility, and interdisciplinary collaboration could become just as crucial as technical proficiency. The growing significance of curiosity, resilience, and lifelong learning as critical skills for future careers was also discussed.
Speakers emphasized that rather than training students exclusively for current careers, higher education institutions must increasingly concentrate on preparing them for opportunities that cannot yet be predicted.
WPU Goa currently offers B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Bachelor of Management Studies (Hons.), B.Des. in Integrated Product Design, B.Des. in Communication Design, and B.Sc. (Hons.) in Psychology.
The conversations reaffirmed the necessity for higher education institutions to concentrate not only on employability but also on preparing students to deal with ongoing change throughout their professional lives, at a time when parents and students are looking for clarity regarding the future of work.
