The Kolkata Chapter of the Young Indians (YI) is the CII’s youth wing (Confederation of Indian Industry). YI works towards the development of a better India through thousands of impactful projects and activities divided primarily into three areas: Youth Leadership, Nation Building, and Thought Leadership, which are spread across 55 chapters across the country.

YI has initiated an empowering drive for sex workers and their children by providing nutritious food, education, books, and games, as well as planning recreational and entertaining activities for them, with the help of various NGOs throughout the city. YI, in collaboration with the NGO Udaan had, hosted a special screening of the popular film Gangubai Kathiawadi at Inox, Forum Mall for 100 sex workers from Sonagachi.

“The main reason for doing this event is to destigmatize sex workers and their community. This is just the first step toward empowering sex workers and mobilizing strategies to improve their health and human rights. We hope to keep working for the community’s betterment by hosting more events like this and raising awareness about it” said Vaibhav Soni, Chair, Young Indians (YI), Kolkata Chapter.
