An Awareness Talk Organized On World Thrombectomy Day

Senior citizens attended a thrombectomy awareness talk at Manipal Hospital in Dhakuria. In addition to answering the participants’ questions, Dr. Biswajit Paul, Consultant Interventional Neurologist at Manipal Hospital Dhakuria, led the session and provided a thorough knowledge session on stroke prevention and treatment. The participants gained a more comprehensive understanding of ischaemic and hemorrhagic stroke.
Dr. Biswajit Paul, Consultant Interventional Neurologist, Manipal Hospital Dhakuria, said, “Strokes can be cured, and the sooner you get treatment, the better. Stroke is not the same as heart disease; it is a disease of the brain. When someone has a stroke, 30,000 neurones are damaged every second, so every minute counts. To prevent stroke, it is important to control key risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and low cholesterol. If someone has a stroke, it is critical to recognise the symptoms right away, move to a hospital that is prepared for strokes, and treat them quickly”.
A successful treatment for strokes brought on by clots is a thrombectomy, which needs to be done within 24 hours of the stroke. In the vast majority of cases, the surgery is effective in curing long-term stroke paralysis.
“Thrombectomy is a treatment for severe stroke, and it is our responsibility to spread awareness about it among the people. We will continue to hold these sessions at Manipal Hospital Dhakuria because our team of knowledgeable physicians and staff is dedicated to educating and informing the public through talk sessions,” said Mr. Dilip Roy, Hospital Director, Manipal Hospital Dhakuria.
About forty-five senior citizens attended the one-hour session on the hospital grounds.
