Bengal’s cinematic icon, Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, continues to remain an inseparable part of Bengali cultural identity, embodying both an emotion and a cherished memory for generations. To mark his landmark 100th birth anniversary, the prominent cultural organization Samaj Sebi Sangha hosted a grand and soulful musical tribute at Uttam Mancha. The evening brought together cinephiles, artists, and dignitaries to celebrate the timeless legacy of the legendary actor.

The event commenced promptly with a ceremonial lamp lighting. Following the inauguration, the organizers felicitated six distinguished personalities from politics, cinema, and music. The honorees included Dr. Swapan Dasgupta, Hon’ble Finance Minister and MLA; Smt. Mahua Chatterjee, daughter-in-law of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar; Smt. Poulami Chatterjee, daughter of legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee; Sri Saikat Mitra, son of legendary singer and music director Shyamal Mitra; acclaimed film director Sri Dhrubo Banerjee; and renowned film and music director Sri Indraadip Dasgupta.

The distinguished guests gathered on stage to officially unveil the eagerly anticipated 2026 Durga Puja Theme Banner, drawing enthusiastic applause from the packed auditorium.

The centerpiece of the evening unfolded with an immersive musical tribute dedicated to the Mahanayak. Featuring evergreen melodies from the golden era of Bengali cinema, the concert transported the audience back to the cinematic magic crafted by Uttam Kumar. A stellar lineup of vocalists—including Pallab Ghosh, Saikat Mitra, Trijay Deb, Samik Pal, and Sispia Banerjee—delivered soul-stirring renditions of classic songs. The musical arrangements, handled brilliantly by Sri Shanku Ghatak, added depth and nostalgia to the performances, while the entire evening was seamlessly anchored by Suchita Ray Chowdhury.

Decades after his passing, Uttam Kumar’s magnetic screen presence remains a perennial source of inspiration. This centenary celebration successfully offered audiences a profound opportunity to unite, listen to unforgettable melodies, and relive the enduring magic of the Mahanayak.
