The Center of Excellence for Quantum Computing was established by the Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), Kolkata, signaling a major advancement in technology. IEM invested ten crores to enable researchers and students and lay the groundwork for a future driven by quantum computing.

Traditional computers may not be able to match the potential of quantum computing. Tasks that would take 10,000 years on traditional systems now only take 200 seconds, demonstrating the enormous potential of quantum computing, with speeds up to 100 million times quicker.

To accelerate research, the Centre has joined the IBM Quantum Network and focuses on multiple quantum computing disciplines. Director of IEM and UEM Dr. Satyajit Chakrabarti discussed intentions to train 2000 students per year at the Quantum Computing Laboratory and to assist more than 200 West Bengal researchers through the Quantum Computing Centre of Excellence.
