This powerful piece questioned popular perceptions of the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan by illuminating his complex character outside of the box of the “Angry Young Man” cliché.Dr. Shoma A. Chatterji has examined 15 of Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic performances in films, starting with Anand and ending with Agnipath, covering 20 years of his voyage into the world of “The Other”, to substantiate this theory. Parwana, Zanjeer, Saudagar, Namak Haram, Abhimaan, Deewar, Sholay, Amar Akbar Antony, Don, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Shakti, Coolie, and Main Azaad Hoon are among the other films included in this analysis. One chapter, “Othering the Other”, captures a gentle Bachchan in personas he never would have imagined as a young actor.

“For me as a book author on Indian cinema, this is the start of a new chapter. I attempted to sketch out an entirely new perspective on the living legend Amitabh Bachchan. I’ve made an effort to break him free from the cliche of the “angry young man” and show him that he is much more than that. He’s the other one”, said Dr. Shoma A. Chatterji, A Film Scholar, Author and Journalist.
