Indian Folk Singer Malini Awasthi’s Performance in Kolkata

An evening with Indian folk singer Malini Awasthi was organized recently at Hyatt Regency.

Malini Awasthi sings in Hindi language dialects like Awadhi, Bundelkhandi and Bhojpuri. She also sings Thumri and Kajri. The Government of India awarded her with Padma Shri in 2016.

EZCC, Prabha Khaitan Foundation, Sur aur Saaz took the initiative to organize this evening. The main aim of the event was to promote the rich Indian art forms among the public.

Padma Bhushan Teejan Bai performed at the inaugural event organized by Sur aur Saaz.

Speaking at the event, Malini Awasthi said “The type of songs that I sing has become very relevant in today’s times. With the help of these songs, the people will feel connected to their roots”.

Malini Awasthi who has been visiting Kolkata quite often lately mentioned about her Kolkata connection. Her Guru Girija Devi used to give her lessons in Kolkata. So she was a frequent visitor to the city and her family had Bhattacharya surname. Hence she felt that she had a great connection with Bengal.

She also spoke at lengths about the appreciation that artists received in Bengal.

Malini Awasthi’s performance mesmerized the audiences and kept them hooked to their seats.
