To celebrate Children’s Day on 14th November 2021, BITM organized an annual day of action for children, by children. Young people raised their voices on the issues that matter to their generation and called for adults – to create a better future.

The expenses of the current pandemic for children are immediate and, if unaddressed, may last a lifetime. To provide impetus to this issue, gas balloons carrying messages for following COVID-19 appropriate behavior were released by the children, in the presence of Shri V. S. Ramachandran, Director, BITM.

To recalibrate their association with nature, primary students competed to ‘Identify Birds and Mimic its Calls’. Underprivileged children presented a street-play on ‘Society & Nature’.

Revealing the secrets of bodies at very low temperatures, a live-science show on ‘Liquid Nitrogen’ held the kids captive.

This was also the final day that BITM’s Tableau, raising awareness on vaccines and COVID-19 appropriate behavior, plied on the streets of Kolkata. The Tableau covered Girish Park – Sovabazar – Bagbazar – Syambazar – Rajabazar – Moulali – Entally – Mallick Bazar. It carried messages towards making the masses aware about the benefits of vaccination as well as COVID-19 appropriate behavior like Wearing Mask, Cleaning Hands, Maintaining Social Distance, etc. In addition to the printed message on banners, there was a recorded voiceover in Bengali and English alerting the people of the essentialities of strict adherence to COVID-19 appropriate behavior.

BITM’s Children’s Day celebrations were attended by over 300 children from NGOs like Kolkata Bhalobasi Foundation, Endeavour/Prochesta, Gyandipak, Dinobondhu Trust, Suproyashi, SaReSaGa, along with Beleghata Girls’ High School, Indus Valley World School, Shri Shikshayatan School, among others.
