Subhas Chandra Bose escaped the watchful eyes of British agents on the frigid night of January 16, 1941, as a mist of fog covered the city, slipped out of his Elgin Road residence covertly, and embarked on an uncharted voyage. On that momentous excursion, Sisir Kumar Bose, his nephew, was the only company. He was driven to Gomoh station in his dark blue Wanderer. After boarding the Kalka Mail, Subhas arrived in Delhi. He traveled to Peshawar and then continued on to Kabul, Afghanistan.

Moscow was his next stop after leaving Germany. In World War II, he was utterly committed to enlisting the aid of the anti-British troops in order to liberate India. On that path, Netaji traveled a great deal of distance. Within Indian Territory, his Azad Hind Fauz raised the flag of the country. He had a very distinct idea of how an independent India ought to develop and how it ought to advance toward an unrestricted future. In his speeches, he explained these concepts. He also acted as the leader of the provisional government in exile for a brief period of time, making key decisions.

Seventy-five years after Independence, where is the India that Netaji dreamed about? Could the country take a single step forward along the path he had in mind?

TV9 has come up with a news series on that route of his historic exit in quest of his ideas and ideals.

Watch “Netaji Kothai (Where is Netaji?)” at 10 pm, Sunday, January 22, 2023.
