“We Have Tried To Be Very Authentic With Bagha Jatin”-Dev

Anticipation was high among the fans of Dev when he announced Bagha Jatin. The teaser of this much-awaited film was released recently.

The teaser launch event was graced by director Arun Roy, Dev, Sreeja Dutta, Sudipta Chakraborty, Iman Chakraborty, Snigdhajit, Rohan Bhattacharya, music composer Nilayan Chatterjee and many more.

The story of the film is about freedom fighter Jatindranath Mukherjee who also is known as Bagha Jatin. This film will showcase his extraordinary spirit, determination, and his love for his motherland.

Prithwindra Nath Mukherjee, great-grandson of Bagha Jatin, aged 85 lives in Paris. “He has been a great motivator and has praised us for the great selection of actors for the different roles. We started shooting the film on 20^th January and that is an important day because Bagha Jatin was sentenced to one year of jail on that day. It is with his blessing that we have continued on this venture” said Dev.

Dev also revealed that for almost two years, they have written many drafts of the film and canceled them. They wanted to make the film as authentic as possible.

Sreeja Dutta is making her debut with his film. “I am very nervous and emotionally overwhelmed. I do not know what to say. I have worked under the guidance of so many veteran actors and the director in this film. To get to work with Dev da in my debut film has been a great feeling for me. I play the role of Bagha Jatin’s wife Indubala Banerjee” said the actress.

The director thanked Dev for wholeheartedly supporting such a project. “The project not only needed a huge amount of money but also a producer who would execute it passionately. And Dev did that for sure. he has never shunned away whenever I have asked him for anything” said Arun Roy.

Rohan Bhattacharya plays the role of Chittapriya Ray Chaudhuri in the film. He said “I am glad that Dev da considered me for this role. We had a great time shooting the film. I am elated that I could play the part of a freedom fighter who sacrificed his life for his motherland. The feeling is amazing”.

Arun Roy and Sounava Bose have written the script of the film and also penned down the dialogues.

Gopi Bhagat is the DOP of the film.

The music and the background score were composed by Nilayan Chatterjee.

On being asked why Dev is releasing the film in Hindi, the actor-producer said “I wanted every Indian to know about this Bengali freedom fighter. Bagha Jatin is known by Bengalis but what about the rest of India? They must also know about his contribution to the freedom of the country. Hence the plan to release the film in Hindi” said Dev.

Dev also said that it is unfortunate that not much documentation is there about the freedom fighters. Apart from a few freedom fighters, not much is known about the other freedom fighters. Hence his team has worked hard to bring out facts about Bagha Jatin’s life.

“He had 400 stitches on his leg. As a result, he will not walk normally. He will have a limp on his leg. It is this nuance that I have tried to incorporate during my portrayal of the freedom fighter” said Dev.

Sudipta Chakraborty said “Binodbala is the elder sister of Bagha Jatin. She did not take up a gun or throw bombs. However, it is due to the endless support of these women, that freedom fighters could fight with so much passion for their country. No one knows much about their contribution but they have done a great job passively”.
