Padatik Dance Troupe To Stage Special Musical Drama In Houston
Ram Teri Ganga Maili Hui, a brand-new musical that asks, “Why hurt the Holy River Ganga?” will be presented by Padatik Dance Centre of Calcutta, in Houston, USA. The performance will support the annual cultural festival of the Foundation for Children’s Cancer Research and Support (FCCRS), a nonprofit charity organization based in Texas City.
This dance-drama is conceptualized by Keka Kar, President of the US-based non-profit organization, Indian Music, and Performing Arts Inc. (IMPA).
Souvik Chakraborty, a renowned kathak dancer, and the dance lead explained that the choreography will incorporate, “Uttar Pradeshi kajri, Rajasthani mand, Bengal’s ganga pujan, & some elements of Bengali folk and Tagore’s compositions. He will be supported by Padatik’s Kathak dancer Ritusri Choudhuri while Sajid Jamal, the choreographer will also be performing as well as training local talents in folk and semi-classical dance compositions.
The squad also faces the task of working with several gifted American high school students from the Houston area who will be joining them for the event.
