This year’s Blenders Pride Fashion Tour concluded with a ground-breaking fashion story that broke stereotypes of fashion craft. The finale edition showcased an experimental collection by designer Anamika Khanna AK | OK, with the captivating Ishaan Khatter as the showstopper, set against the dramatic backdrop of the iconic Howrah Bridge, and transformed the city’s historic Hooghly River into a spectacular runway. This collection pushed design beyond convention and made fashion move into the next era.

The showcase, which was organized in association with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), questioned conventional ideas about craftsmanship by viewing it as a dynamic, ever-evolving force rather than a static heritage. Through futuristic tailoring, metallic interventions, and cosmic-inspired designs, Anamika Khanna’s AK | OK disassembled and reassembled well-known craft vocabulary, such as zardozi, chikankari, and mirror work.

The performance took place on a barge that was anchored in the middle of the Hoogly River, turning it into a floating fashion theater. Divers emerged onto the barge as it opened, and the scaffolding came to life with smoke, light, and sound. As responding lasers changed with each step, models emerged from within the structure to a high-energy score, increasing the show’s tension and momentum. Sculptural silhouettes in motion followed the story’s climax, which featured strong chainmail looks presented as a cohesive message. With the arrival of Ishaan on a speedboat, the climax produced a dramatic crescendo that culminated in a group closing moment against the famous Howrah Bridge.

The Bengal Paddle vessel, with its museum-like interiors and ancient décor, entertained the city’s elite before they were loaded onto the barge, lending the evening a sense of solemnity. The showcase’s sophistication was enhanced by the immersive cultural backdrop established by the Riverine Museum, housed in its old boiler room and housing rare marine artifacts and carefully chosen pieces that trace the Hooghly’s heritage.

“Being a part of the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour felt completely in sync with my own instinct to experiment and move beyond the expected. It was immensely thrilling to see craftsmanship break free from its conventional mold and take on a sharper, more expressive form. It felt like being a part of a time when fashion was actively shaped rather than merely displayed against such a famous backdrop,” said showstopper Ishaan Khatter.

A great fashion event indeed!!
