Tomar Thikana To Provide Free Shelter For Destitute Elderly

Soma Chakraborty, co-founder of Goodace Hospital, launched Tomar Thikana, a totally free shelter home for elderly people in need under Gouri’s Foundation, as a humanitarian effort in honor of International Women’s Day.
The initiative was unveiled by Dr. Manabi Bandyopadhyay, Vice Chairperson, The West Bengal Transgender Persons Development Board, Government of West Bengal, First Transgender Principal in West Bengal & Renowned Public Figure, Principal, Krishnagar Women’s College; Debraj Chakraborty, Member of Mayor-in-Council of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation; Santanu Guha Thakurta, Renowned fashion designer; Dr. Dipankar Mukherjee, Renowned Psychiatrist and Soma Chakraborty, Co-Founder, Goodace Hospital.
One of the earliest programs of its kind in the area and beyond is Tomar Thikana. The 12-bed senior care facility was established, and neither paid admissions nor public applications are accepted. Rather, the foundation actively seeks out elderly people who have no family, no support network, and nowhere else to go, providing them with a place where they can at last feel that they belong rather than just a roof over their heads.
Goodace Hospital will provide residents with all-encompassing medical support, including routine health monitoring, treatment, and daily care, guaranteeing that their everyday lives are defined by dignity, safety, and compassion.
Soma Chakraborty is a well-known leader in the healthcare industry who has worked in senior positions for more than 15 years at a number of reputable organizations, including INK, Fortis, Pratiksha Hospital, Swagat Hospital in Assam, and Mercy Hospital as the Deputy General Manager. Her dedication to addressing social needs outside of hospital walls has been shaped by her longstanding affiliation with healthcare and patient welfare.
Fundamentally, Tomar Thikana is a very personal project that Soma Chakraborty started to commemorate International Women’s Day with meaning rather than symbolism, in keeping with this year’s theme of Give it to Gain.
