Manipal Hospital in Dhakuria held an emotional Ovarian Cancer Awareness Session titled Every Scar Holds a Story of Strength to commemorate Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and honor the spirit of resiliency among cancer warriors. Ovarian cancer survivors, doctors, caregivers, and senior citizens from various associations attended the awareness session to promote discussions about early detection, treatment, and mental health.

Dr. Irina Dey, Consultant – Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr. Paromita Roy, Consultant – Gynaecologic Oncologist, Dr. Tanmoy Kumar Mandal, Consultant – Medical Oncologist, and Dr. Sagnik Ray, Consultant – Surgical Oncologist, moderated the session with a motivating health talk.

“Ovarian cancer often presents with vague symptoms like bloating, abdominal discomfort, changes in appetite, or unexplained fatigue, which are frequently overlooked by women. Early detection greatly depends on raising awareness of these warning indicators and promoting routine gynecological consultations,” said Dr. Irina Dey.

“The rising incidence of ovarian cancer among younger women is becoming a growing concern. Today’s treatment outcomes are significantly better thanks to developments in chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and individualized oncology care. Nonetheless, emotional fortitude, family support, and patient counseling are essential in assisting patients in navigating their cancer journey with courage and assurance in addition to medical management,” said Dr. Tanmoy Kumar Mandal.

Rina Ghosh, a 62-year-old female patient and Cancer Warrior, said, “My world completely changed when I was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer. I started to experience pain, fear, and uncertainty daily. One of the hardest struggles of my life was going through a major surgery that took over seven hours, both emotionally and physically. But I gradually learned to persevere through the darkest part of my journey with bravery, hope, and the unwavering support of my family and caregivers. I have a whole new outlook on life now. I learned from my experience that although fear can be overwhelming, the ability to survive is far more potent. I am now incredibly grateful for every moment of tranquility and health”.

Age increases the risk of ovarian cancer, so it’s critical to closely monitor any unusual symptoms. Lifestyle changes and routine health examinations must be included. To increase awareness across all age groups, family members must normalize discussing the illness.

Since ovarian cancer treatment is widely accessible, prompt intervention and guidance can save lives and alter people’s perspectives. One of the most crucial steps in the fight against ovarian cancer is raising awareness through health talks.
