One of North Kolkata’s most historic and revered Durga Puja organizers, the Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity, has officially kicked off its 91st year of celebrations. The festivities commenced with the traditional Khuti Puja ceremony, where the committee also proudly announced its creative concept for the 2026 season: “Akal Bodhon.”

The auspicious Khuti Puja ritual, which marks the formal start of building the grand pandal, was graced by the presence of numerous notable personalities and dignitaries like Smt. Locket Chatterjee, General Secretary of BJP WB; Sri. Koustav Bagchi, MLA; Sri. Pradip Kr. Dey (Bapi Da), President of Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity; Smt. Pratyusha Banerjee, Secretary of Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity, and other eminent guests.

The 2026 theme, “Akal Bodhon,” is deeply inspired by a pivotal chapter in the Ramayana—the untimely invocation of Goddess Durga by Lord Rama to seek her divine blessings before his climactic battle with Ravana. Elevating the spiritual gravity of this year’s celebrations, the committee has received the sacred blessings and guidance of His Holiness Param Pujaniya Giriji Maharaj (Juna Akhara).

In addition to its central theme, the Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity revealed a unique artistic installation dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This specific piece was conceptualized to honor the Prime Minister’s public devotion and his deep connection to the vibrant religious and cultural heritage of Bengal.

Sri. Pradip Kr. Dey (Bapi Da), President, Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity, said, “This year, with Akal Bodhon as our theme, we hope to offer a celebration that honors commitment, tradition, and the timeless principles that bind our community together. We invite everyone to join us on this incredible journey as we celebrate our 91st year”.

Smt. Pratyusha Banerjee, Secretary, Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity, said, “Inspired by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s public displays of devotion and his connection to Bengal’s rich religious and cultural traditions, we have also produced a tribute to him as part of this year’s artistic presentation”.

In its historic 91st year, Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity looks forward to presenting yet another magnificent Durga Puja, carrying on its proud legacy of excellence, devotion, and artistic brilliance. The Khuti Puja and theme launch marked the official start of preparations.
