A Great Blood Donation Camp For Kids With Thalassemia

To support children with thalassemia and guarantee a consistent supply of blood for their treatment, Lions & Leo District 322B1 successfully organized a Blood Donation Camp as part of its We Serve initiative, reinforcing the spirit of service and social responsibility. The camp was held at the organization’s Thalassemia Unit and Blood Center, where kids with thalassaemia receive regular blood support.
With members banding together to donate blood and help save lives, the admirable initiative signaled the start of the Lions Club’s new service year. The camp was a major step toward raising awareness about voluntary blood donation and the critical need for ongoing support for thalassemia patients, with over 150 members actively participating.
The event was graced by Dr. Pankaj Shrivastava, HOD, RN Tagore Hospital International Institute of Cardiac Sciences; Avijit Nandi Majumdar, Editor-in-Chief, ANM News and Chief Executive Officer, ANM Global Media Research; Manju Chamaria, District Governor, Lions International; and Indrani Chowdhary, Cabinet Secretary of the Club.
Kailash Khandelwal, Chairperson, Blood Centre, said, “One of the most significant human deeds is giving blood. 156 children who need frequent blood transfusions have been supported by our Thalassemia Unit; ten of these children receive daily blood support because of their illness. Timely blood availability is not only a medical necessity but also a lifesaver for these kids. We can strengthen our support network, raise awareness, and motivate more people to donate blood regularly with programs like this”.
The program emphasized the value of community involvement, healthcare awareness, and teamwork in enhancing the quality of life for patients who require frequent transfusions.
