A Great Indo-Thailand Partnership To Manufacture E-Scooters In India

Mercstone International Pvt. Ltd. (Mercstone EV), based in Kolkata, and Assara Electric Company Ltd., Thailand, announced a strategic partnership to manufacture electric scooters in India through a proposed phased investment of nearly Rs 250 crore. This is one of the biggest Indo-Thai manufacturing collaborations in India’s rapidly growing electric mobility sector. The company’s long-term pan-India expansion plan calls for the establishment of the first manufacturing facility in West Bengal.
Dr. Swapan Dasgupta, Hon. Minister of Finance, and Shri Arjun Singh, Hon. Minister-in-Charge, Department of Labour & Transport, Government of West Bengal, as well as high-ranking government officials, business executives from around the world, attended the official unveiling of the company’s flagship electric scooter.

Intending to create an integrated electric mobility manufacturing ecosystem in India, the partnership is the start of a long-term Indo-Thai partnership. Under the partnership, Mercstone International Pvt. Ltd. will set up the manufacturing infrastructure, complete production facilities, skilled labor, and manage all manufacturing, operations, marketing, sales, and after-sales support throughout India, while Assara Electric Company Ltd. will supply cutting-edge technology, technical know-how, and essential raw materials.
The proposed business will concentrate on producing, assembling, and distributing next-generation electric scooters while creating a nationwide ecosystem that includes suppliers of components, technology partners, dealerships, service facilities, and logistics networks. As manufacturing capacity grows gradually, the project is anticipated to create significant direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The investment coincides with India’s accelerated shift to electric vehicles as part of its sustainability agenda. Through technology transfer, advanced manufacturing, product development, and innovation, the partnership is anticipated to enhance industrial cooperation between Thailand and India while advancing India’s goal of becoming a global center for clean mobility manufacturing.
Mercstone International Pvt. Ltd. was founded in 2020 and has already set up a manufacturing and warehousing facility in Barrackpore, close to the Kalyani Expressway. It has also identified another location in Nabarand for future growth. The business intends to gradually increase production capacity in order to satisfy the rising demand in India.

Smart connected electric scooters with Bluetooth-enabled vehicle tracking, Internet of Things (IoT)-based anti-theft systems, smartphone integration, keyless start, digital instrumentation, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery technology, an Electronic Assisted Braking System (EABS), waterproof motors, and sophisticated thermal management systems will be among its product offerings.
In order to guarantee smooth customer service and long-term product dependability, Mercstone EV will build a strong dealership, distribution, and after-sales service network throughout India as part of its national growth strategy.

The promoters intend to diversify into electric four-wheelers within the next five years, aiming for an annual turnover of Rs 500–700 crore while gradually growing their product line and manufacturing footprint.
By fusing foreign technology with Indian production capabilities, industry observers see the Mercstone-Assara partnership as a significant turning point in bolstering India’s electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem. With India’s EV market expected to grow steadily over the next ten years, the partnership intends to greatly support the nation’s aspirations for clean mobility while strengthening India’s standing as a competitive global manufacturing destination.
