A Great Initiative To Empower Voters With Accessibility

“Care Beyond Hospitals: Empowering Every Voter with Accessibility” was the theme of an event held at the Press Club Kolkata by Desun Hospital and the Election Commission of India. To advance accessibility, dignity, and equal participation in the democratic process, the initiative emphasizes the significance of cooperation between public institutions and healthcare.
The program, which was implemented under the Election Commission’s Systematic Voter Education & Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, aimed to promote inclusive voting, particularly for older voters and those with mobility issues. Wheelchairs were provided to help voters at polling places in order to support this effort and make voting more accessible.
The event was attended by Dr. Saumitra Bharadwaj, Group Director, Desun Hospital, Dr. Sujoy Ranjan Deb, Senior Medical Director, Desun Hospital, along with Election Commission representatives, Mr. Biswajit Dasgupta, Nodal Officer (SVEEP), 164 – Beliaghata Assembly Constituency; Shreya Som, Nodal Officer (SVEEP), 166 – Shyampukur Assembly Constituency.
Speaking at the event, EC representatives said, “Strengthening democratic participation requires ensuring accessibility in the electoral process. Such initiatives are essential in addressing the real-world difficulties that older voters and people with mobility issues encounter. We value Desun Hospital’s assistance in promoting more accessible and inclusive voting at the local level. Voter awareness and participation are the main goals of SVEEP programs, and accessibility is still a top concern. By giving those who most need it on-the-ground assistance, partnerships like this help close gaps. It is encouraging to see institutions come forward to contribute towards a more inclusive and voter-friendly environment”.
By ensuring that mobility issues do not prevent anyone from exercising their right to vote, Desun Hospital hopes to promote a more inclusive electoral process.
