Atrial Fibrillation is a complicated and widespread heart rhythm disease that can be treated using the “Cryo Balloon Ablation” technique provided by Apollo Hospitals Chennai. The hospital performed the first Cryo Balloon Ablation on a 64-year-old woman in Chennai.

Dr. A.M. Karthigesan, an interventional cardiac, and electrophysiologist from Apollo Main Hospitals, used the cutting-edge Cryo Balloon Ablation technique to perform minimally invasive operations on fifteen patients with atrial fibrillation.

Atrial fibrillation (AF), often known as an irregular heartbeat, affects the heart’s upper chambers (atria). The atrium quivers in AF rather than beating regularly. The heart can beat up to 300 times per minute or more in the atria and up to 150 times per minute or more in the lower chambers (ventricles) as a result of AF. Compared to people with healthy heart rhythms, those with AF have a fivefold increased risk of stroke and a twofold increased chance of heart failure.

More than 90 lakh Indians suffer from atrial fibrillation (AF), a common heart rhythm disease that raises the risk of mortality, heart failure, and stroke. Electrical impulses (which control heart rhythm) are rapid and erratic in AF, resulting in irregular heartbeats and less efficient blood pumping.

Dr AM Karthigesan, a Senior Consultant Cardiologist &Electrophysiologist at the Apollo Main Hospitals, Chennai along with two patients who underwent this technique graced the press conference.

A novel interventional technique called Cyro Balloon Ablation for AF is utilized to regulate irregular heartbeats brought on by faulty electrical signals that pass from the pulmonary veins to the atria.

In AF patients, early Cryo Balloon ablation therapy improves the quality of life and lowers the risk of heart failure and stroke.

With the introduction of this new technique, many patients will be able to lead a healthy life.
