Doctors From Manipal Hospitals Pay A Great Tribute To Tagore

As doctors from Manipal Hospitals Kolkata took to the cultural stage to commemorate Rabindranath Tagore‘s birth anniversary, stethoscopes gave way to songs, prescriptions made room for poetry, and hospital corridors found an artistic extension at the historic Indian Museum. The celebration aptly demonstrated how Tagore’s timeless words, music, and philosophy continue to impact lives beyond generations, professions, and boundaries on an evening when healers turned into performers. Doctors from Manipal Hospitals Kolkata’s units in EM Bypass, Mukundapur, Dhakuria, Salt Lake, and Broadway came together for an immersive cultural evening honoring Bengal’s literary and artistic legacy at the famous Indian Museum.
The program brought healthcare, humanity, and culture together in a unique way, all set against the magnificence of one of India’s oldest and most esteemed cultural institutions. Nineteen doctors from different units came together beyond their clinical duties to celebrate Rabindranath Tagore’s enduring legacy through music and literature in an amazing show of harmony and artistic expression. Alongside stirring recitations like Bansi, Nirjhorer Sopno Bhongo, and passages from Shesher Kobita, the evening included memorable performances like Jagorane Jay Bibhaabori, Prano Bhoriya Trisha Horiye, Ami Chini Go Chini, Mono Moro Megher Sangi, and Pagla Hawar Badal Dine. The performances reinforced the idea that healing goes well beyond medicine by creating an emotional and nostalgic environment for patients, caregivers, hospital employees, and guests.

As a touching homage to Kaviguru on his 165th birthday, Dr. Sanjoy Basu, Senior Consultant and Clinical Lead in the Department of Medical Gastroenterology at Manipal Hospital Mukundapur, created a stunning live painting of Rabindranath Tagore, adding a unique artistic dimension to the evening. One of the program’s highlights was the artistic gesture, which represented the participating doctors’ strong cultural and emotional ties to Tagore’s lasting legacy.
By fusing healthcare with culture, compassion, and community involvement, Manipal Hospitals Kolkata once again demonstrated its dedication to holistic wellbeing through this special Rabindra Jayanti celebration. The evening honored both the human side of healing and the legacy of Rabindranath Tagore.
