Indian whiskies are now at the top of the market rather than just emerging. With its historic Best of Class – International Whisky victory at the American Distilling Institute (ADI) International Spirits Competition 2026, Paul John Indian Single Malt Whisky has demonstrated just that at one of the most prestigious and technically demanding spirits competitions in the world. The most renowned whisky-producing countries in the world, including Scotland, the US, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, and Australia—nations that have shaped the world’s whisky discourse for decades—were represented in this year’s competition. The brand outperformed all of them in blind tastings conducted by industry veterans, master distillers, and spirits specialists, where labels and country of origin are kept completely secret.

Paul John Classic Select Cask led the show and won the Double Gold Medal, the competition’s highest honor, as well as the Best of Class and Best of Category awards for International Whisky and Indian Single Malt Whisky, respectively. The Peated Select Cask, Bold, and Nirvana Unpeated Expressions won Gold Medals for their unique qualities and artistry, while Paul John Brilliance took home a Double Gold Medal. Paul John PX completed the collection with a Silver Medal, a performance that highlights the outstanding consistency and diversity of the entire portfolio rather than just one standout expression.

Paul John Whisky’s performance at ADI coincides with a genuine shift in the global whisky discourse. The distinctive character that India’s tropical climate, unique 6-row barley, and craft-led production bring to maturation is attracting consumers and industry experts to look beyond traditional producing regions. What was once thought of as an emerging category is now acknowledged for what it has always been: premium whisky that just needed global recognition to catch up. That moment of reckoning is this victory.

Paul John Indian Single Malt Whisky is the catalyst for the current global discourse surrounding Indian whisky.  With more than 390 international awards and a presence in 44 countries, the brand has not only represented Indian single malt on the international scene but also defined what Indian single malt can be.
