World Handloom Day Celebrated With Theme Of The Treasure Of Indian Weaves

World Handloom Day was celebrated on the theme of The Treasure of Indian Weaves in the presence of Reena Dewan, President of WICCI, Paromita Ghosh, Vice-President of WICCI, and other eminent guests.

The event was curated by West Bengal Art Leadership Council (WBALC) VP Paromita Ghosh and members Vibha Mitra and Anisha Singh Motwani.

Own The Past and WICCI showcased a wide variety of Indian textiles. Eminent guests wore various kinds of handloom from different parts of India.

Some of the kinds of saris showcased at the event were Kanjeevaram, Tangail sari, Benarasi, Kantha Stitch, Patola, and many more.

Reena Dhawan said that the contribution of the weaving community to the socio-economic development of India is huge. With different initiatives, they are trying to protect the handloom heritage and also empower the handloom workers financially. It is also a sector that employs a huge number of women and is a good sector to address the employability of women.

With this initiative, the council wants to make the citizens of India aware of the rich history of Indian handloom and take pride in it.
