Uber Launches New Industry-First Features To Enhance Safety

Uber continued to raise the bar for safety with new, industry-first features designed to make every trip safer for riders and drivers. Record My Ride, an industry-first feature, allows drivers to securely record encrypted in-cab video within the Uber app while driving using their own phones. To improve emergency response, Uber has teamed up with medical logistics provider Dial 4242 to integrate Ambulance Assistance directly into its platform.
The new launches build on Uber’s recent leadership in safety innovation, which includes industry-first features such as Audio Recording, Women Rider Preference, Helmet Selfie Verification, and Seatbelt Reminders, as well as a suite of other technology-led and human interventions designed to improve safety and accountability on every trip.
Beyond technology, Uber continues to invest in partnerships and programs that promote safe mobility. The company has been a proud partner of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on the Sadak Suraksha Abhiyaan, using its platform to raise awareness about the importance of safety over speed, while also working to improve driver safety and create dedicated experiences for families through products like Uber for Teens and Uber for Seniors.
Hon’ble Union Minister for the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, said, “Following traffic rules, wearing seat belts, and helmets may appear simple, but they play a significant role in reducing fatalities in road accidents. Technology has the potential to significantly improve road safety and raise public awareness. I appreciate Uber’s continued support for the Sadak Suraksha Abhiyaan, as well as its efforts to introduce innovations that promote safer driving and better emergency response”.
The new features are Record My Ride, Ambulance Assistance, Don’t Type & Drive, and Set Your Own PIN.
Along with these new features, Uber continues to provide a variety of safety features that have helped shape the ride-hailing experience over the years. RideCheck, 24×7 Safety Line, Safety Preferences, and Phone and Address Anonymization continue to help riders and drivers before, during, and after each trip. Many of these innovations were pioneered by Uber and have since become standard features of mobility platforms.
These initiatives highlight Uber’s commitment to improving safety through the use of technology and collaboration with experts.
