The event, which was in line with this year’s global theme, Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke: Prevention, Management, and Rehabilitation, brought together prominent medical professionals, health leaders, and patient advocates to highlight the critical role that structured rehabilitation plays in regaining functional independence.
The symposium was graced by Dr. P. K. After the inauguration, Dr. Satyajit Behera presented the Annual Report of Kolkata Heart Lung Centre.

Dr. P. K. Hazra said, “Heart and lung muscle reserves naturally decrease with age. Vital organs are kept active through scientific cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and expert counseling. In addition to managing chronic conditions like diabetes, asthma, and COPD, guided physical therapy is crucial following heart surgeries and knee replacements. Rehabilitation enables patients with chronic neurological or musculoskeletal disorders, such as stroke and osteoarthritis, to live active, dignified lives”.
The patient showcase was one of the event’s most inspiring highlights. Paulami Mukherjee, a Tagore Park resident recuperating from COPD, enthralled the audience with a moving vocal performance, demonstrating how structured lung rehabilitation revitalizes patients.
Following a ceremonial cake cutting, senior members of the Dignity Foundation performed a graceful dance performance set to Vande Mataram, which was met with enthusiastic applause from the medical community.
