Uber announced one of its biggest expansions in India, expanding its reach to over 225 cities nationwide and offering its services in 100 additional cities, including seven new West Bengal cities.

Uber will start operating Uber Bikes in seven additional cities in West Bengal, offering a cost-effective solution for daily commutes and first- and last-mile connectivity. Uber now operates outside of the state’s major cities thanks to the expansion.

Uber is inviting more Indians to experience the convenience, transparency, and safety features of app-based mobility that have helped make Uber one of India’s most popular mobility apps by offering first-time riders nationwide their first ride for free for a brief period of time in honor of the country’s Independence Day.

Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, said, “Smaller cities are being connected and new economic opportunities are being made possible by India’s expanding road network. I applaud Uber for reaching 100 more cities, giving more Indians access to reasonably priced transportation and generating jobs for thousands of people. I encourage states to adopt the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines 2025, which give them a clear path to adopt bike taxis and other new mobility solutions. This will allow their citizens to have affordable first-and last-mile connectivity while increasing livelihood creation at scale. Uber’s collaboration with the Sadak Suraksha Abhiyaan highlights how crucial it is to make sure that increased mobility and safer roads go hand in hand”.

The expansion contributes to the increasing use of two-wheelers in daily transportation in India. For riders, Uber Bike provides a cost-effective means of connecting to public transportation, navigating traffic jams, and traveling short distances. It gives drivers a low-barrier way to use an asset they already own to access flexible earning opportunities.

Bikes are also a part of Uber’s larger goal to create a multimodal mobility platform for India, offering customers more options depending on how, when, and where they need to travel—from cars and bikes for daily trips to airport rides and intercity travel, along with integrations with public transportation.

Uber’s suite of in-app safety features, such as Realtime Driver ID Check, an in-app SOS button, Share Trip Status, and Uber’s 24×7 SafetyLine, support every Uber Bike trip and give riders more confidence.
