A Great Start To The South City Durgotsav 2026

One of Kolkata’s most famous locations started a new cultural custom on the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra. South City Mall formally announced the start of South City Durgotsav 2026, its first-ever Durga Puja celebration and the start of what is anticipated to be a historic addition to the city’s festive calendar, with the ceremonial Khuti Puja. South City Durgotsav is more than just a new location for Durga Puja; it aims to honor the customs, history, and culture that have influenced Bengal’s most beloved holiday over the years.
Even though Durga Puja is now well-known throughout the world and represents Kolkata’s cultural identity, its origins and customs are frequently still unknown. South City hopes to honor these roots and celebrate the strong cultural and emotional ties that have bound communities together for generations with its first edition.

The theme of this year’s showcase, which was created by artist Subhankar Dutta, is Jatra. It honors the journey of Durga Puja and the enduring spirit of togetherness that continues to define Bengal’s festive ethos. It is deeply ingrained in our history, culture, and tradition.

During Durga Puja in 2026, South City Mall will become an immersive cultural destination honoring Bengal’s artistry, heritage, and festive spirit. The Khuti Puja signaled the start of months of artistic creation. The inaugural ceremony marked the start of South City‘s own Durga Puja journey and the arrival of the festive season with traditional Dhaak performances and the moving recital of Mahishasur Mardini.
